About This Project
Each of these pieces of art were chosen carefully based on their cultural background and diversity from other objects in the era it was created. These works together are meant to give the viewer a limited understanding of the importance of religious figures in daily life throughout history.
All items in this museum demonstrate a depiction of divinity - from gods and goddesses, to spirits, to the God of Christianity. They are each unique and representative of the culture and beliefs of the times. They are also pleasing to the eye and intruiging to the mind.
From viewing this website, viewers should be able to gather certain religious characteristics of all the cultures that are represented here. Which gods did they worship? How did they portray their gods - peaceful or barbaric? Male or female? Human or animal? Just as different cultures around the world have always been diverse, their religious art has also been a diverse medium in which we can learn about ancient times.
The art featured within this site is all described as would be in a real-life museum, with information alongside to give background, to help those viewing to understand and appreciate the pieces. With the increasing technology these days, we can now learn about pieces across the world, from numerous different cultures, viewing them in detail in the comfort of our homes rather than traveling to distant nations. A wealth of outside and diverse research accompanies each image, cited individually at the bottom of each article.
This site is first and foremost for the purpose of education, to inspire curiosity and knowledge within the viewers. However, there seems to be an aspect of great entertainment when it comes to seeing something new and foreign for the first time - perhaps learning about an ancient culture can intruige the viewer to make comparisons with our modern culture. Or perhaps, the viewer can simply enjoy the aesthetic beauty of this ancient art. Whichever the case, the viewer should leave feeling different than before - whether more enlightened or entertained.
